Pre-Op at Cedars

Lisa and her family are on a pre-planned vacation (in Barbados) so I (Lesley) am going to try and keep the blog updated while she is away.

Steve and Terry spent the day at Cedars Sinai doing all of Steve's pre-op work. He had a functional MRI, a tracking MRI, and an appointment with the internist and the admitting nurse. Originally the appointments were supposed to take up the entire day with the last MRI appointment at 6:30pm, but they actually combined the two MRI's in the early afternoon and Steve was done early.

Greg drove down from northern California this afternoon, and we all (Greg, Steve Terry, Jessica and I) went to dinner down near the hotel Steve and Terry are staying. Dr. Patil (the neurosurgeon) called in the early evening to let Steve know that there was some good news with the new MRI. First, and most important to Steve, they should not have to wake him up during the surgery to check his speech function. Second, the tumor is exactly where they thought it was, and it has not changed much from the last MRI. They placed some suction cuppy things on his head to mark the surgery, and sent him home for the evening. They need to be back at Cedars at 6:15 tomorrow morning to admit him into the hospital, and surgery is scheduled for 8:15am. Surgery is supposed to last about 8 hours.

Tomorrow, we will have a crew of loving and concerned relatives in the waiting room. There will be Terry, Chrissy, Greg, our Uncle John and Aunt Natsuko, and me. I will bring Jessica's iPad with me assuming that Cedars has wi-fi and will update as soon as there is something to report. Otherwise, for all of Steve's friends at work I will be updating Scott during the day also.

So, with all of the good thoughts, wishes, and prayers pointed in Steve's direction we move forward to surgery tomorrow.

  1. Thanks, Les. I wish I could be in both places Wednesday. Good news about the tumor not changing and Steve not needing to be awakened. I bet Steve and Terry didn't get much sleep last night though for the worry. I'm glad John and Natsuko will be there. Tell them hello from our family.
    BEST WISHES for today.
